The Birth of an Idea

Hey there, future listeners. First – we’re still coming (we know, it’s been a while). We’ve recorded 10 amazing episodes and well, we’ve hit a wall. Turns out that launching a podcast isn’t as easy as we thought (we know, we know). Like so many memes out there, what seemed like a fun adventure (it is) is also a lot of hard work. But let’s go back a few steps…

We’re Alex and Sarah, the duo behind the upcoming podcast, “You Are Doing Better Than You Think” (YDB). We know a lot of you have been asking when the podcast will finally launch and we promise it will be soon. We are here to explain a bit about what’s taking us so long. But before we dive into the nitty-gritty of our podcast journey, we wanted to take a moment to introduce ourselves and share a bit about how this wild idea came around.

Meet Alex

I’m Alex, your co-host, who recently traded a CEO role in the private jet sector for the entrepreneurial grind. After a decade in the aviation industry, I decided it was time to spread my wings in a different way. Now, I run my own company and an aviation consultancy on the side. Traveling is still in my blood, I’m a total foodie, and I love spending time with family and friends. This past year has been a rollercoaster of rediscovery after ending a nine-year relationship and marriage. For me, life is ever-changing, but I’m embracing every twist and turn with my furry sidekick Olim, who is never far behind (demanding cheese – which is odd, but there you go).

Meet Sarah

Sarah, my partner-in-crime, is based in London. Juggling motherhood, while running her Marketing and PR business between London and Hong Kong, she is the queen of over-committing and so it’s very in character that she took on this podcast dream with me. Sarah brings her own set of superpowers to the table, balancing career and family life with grace (and a lot of caffeine). Together, we’re the epitome of ambitious amateurs—determined, slightly clueless, but full of enthusiasm.

Our YDB Dream

YDB was born out of our shared passion for helping people navigate life’s ups and downs. It developed from our conversations of helping each other through all of life’s curveballs. We wanted a platform to ask successful people how they manage the highs and lows, hoping their stories can be a beacon for others. YDB is all about providing resources, tips, and advice for women and men seeking purpose in their careers and lives. It’s rough out there, and sometimes it feels like there’s no one to talk to and no clear answers. We’re here to change that narrative. More than anything, it’s about not being attached to the outcome: deadlines, likes, downloads. It’s more about getting value and enjoyment from conversations we have and hopefully being useful to our listeners.

The Journey So Far

When we came up with the idea for YDB, we had no idea what we were getting ourselves into. Balancing our day jobs, different time zones (hello from Miami and London!), and guests scattered around the globe has been a logistical jigsaw puzzle. Editing, music selection, and all the behind-the-scenes magic have been a steep learning curve. But hey, what’s life without a few challenges? We have to be honest – we both want to do the fun bits (editing, not so much – thankfully, we’ve found someone for that now).

Launching this podcast has been anything but smooth sailing. From figuring out how to record episodes without sounding like we’re in a tin can, to finding the perfect theme music that doesn’t make us cringe, every step has been an adventure. And don’t get us started on editing – let’s just say we’ve developed a newfound respect for audio engineers!

Why We’re Excited

Despite the hurdles, we’re thrilled about what’s to come. YDB is more than just a podcast; we hope it’ll be a community where we can all learn from each other. We want our listeners to know they’re not alone in their struggles and that even when things seem tough, they’re doing better than they think.

We’ve lined up some incredible guests who will share their stories, wisdom, and practical advice. Whether you’re navigating career changes, personal challenges, or just looking for a bit of inspiration, YDB is here for you.
